Notice of Finding of No Significant Impact
and Availability of a Final Environmental Assessment
for the Proposed New Airport Traffic Control Tower at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, Mesa, Arizona

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced that a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) has been approved based on the results of a November 2017 Final Environmental Assessment (EA) for the proposed New Airport Traffic Control Tower at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in Mesa, Arizona. The purpose of the Proposed Action is to increase both the tower height and square footage of cab space to enhance the safety, efficiency, and service of the existing airfield. The Proposed Action includes the construction of a new tower on Airport property located approximately 410 feet to the northwest of the existing tower and the demolition of the existing tower. The new ATCT structure will be 194 feet Above Ground Level (AGL) to the top of the tower with a controller eye height of 164 feet AGL and a tower cab approximately 550 square feet in area. The FONSI indicates that the Proposed Action is consistent with existing environmental policies and objectives set forth in the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 in that it will not significantly affect the quality of the human environment. The Final EA and FONSI are available for review online below.

Copies of the Final EA and the FAA’s finding are also available for public review at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority (PMGAA) Administrative Offices, located at 5835 South Sossaman Road, Mesa, AZ 85212 and the FAA Airports District Office, located at 3800 N.
