Mesa, Arizona — Mesa Mayor Mark Freeman has been elected Chairman
of the Mesa Gateway Airport Authority (MGAA) for Fiscal Year 2027 (FY27). Each year, the MGAA Board elects a slate of officers from the five-member community Board representatives. Gilbert Mayor Scott Anderson will serve as Vice-Chair, Apache Junction Mayor
Chip Wilson will serve as Secretary, Queen Creek Mayor Julia Wheatley will serve as Treasurer, and Lt. Governor Regina Antone will serve as Immediate Past Chair.
"Mesa Gateway Airport is a more than $2 billion annual economic engine for the State of Arizona and a cornerstone of the Phoenix East
Valley’s continued growth," Chairman Mark Freeman said. "I'm honored to serve as Chair of the MGAA Board of Directors and look forward to working alongside my fellow Board members and MGAA staff to build upon our growing commercial passenger service offerings
and attract new private development that benefits all the communities we serve."
MGAA Executive Director/CEO J. Brian O'Neill, A.A.E., added, "Mayor Freeman brings strong leadership and a deep commitment to the betterment
of the Phoenix East Valley. The MGAA Board provides the vision, direction, and support that guides MGAA staff and our many Airport partners. We look forward to working with Chairman Freeman and the MGAA Board during the next twelve months on exciting initiatives
and important infrastructure improvement projects to keep Mesa Gateway Airport moving forward."
Gateway Airport has a number of exciting development projects underway that will break ground or be completed in the next year. Some
of these projects include, but are not limited to:
- A 127-room, five-story Gateway East SpringHill Suites by Marriott Hotel and retail development
- A 129-room dual-brand Wingate and Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Hotel at SkyBridge Arizona
- Reconstruction of Runway 12R/30L and Taxiway Golf
- Construction of the new $44MM TSA Checked Baggage Inspection Facility
- Construction of new 136,000 sq. ft. AmpliFLY hangar
- Construction of 100,000 sq. ft.+ FlightSafety International Learning Center
