Mesa, Arizona —
The number of travelers flying through Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (Gateway Airport, Airport) this summer has set a new record, with May through August marking the busiest summer travel period ever. 593,231 passengers passed through the Airport during this
period, a 9% increase over the previous summer season record set back in 2022.
“This summer, sun-seeking air travelers have been flocking to Arizona for
hiking, golf, and more. And local residents have been traveling to escape the heat in record numbers,” said J. Brian O’Neill A.A.E., Executive Director/CEO of the Airport. We are excited that more and more people are discovering the convenience and affordability
that Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport provides.
In February, the Airport opened a new 30,000-square-foot terminal addition
that added five additional gates, expanded holding areas, and new retail and dining space.
Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority (PMGAA, Authority) Board Chairwoman
Queen Creek Mayor Julia Wheatley added, “The Airport Authority has invested millions of dollars to ensure everyone enjoys a
Just Plane Easy experience when they travel through Gateway Airport. PMGAA’s investment is certainly paying dividends. We look forward to continuing this trend throughout the fall and winter months.”
PMGAA is highlighting the 45 nonstop destinations available through the Airport
with an Alpaca Your Bags and Get Away event hosted by Kip and Napoleon, two Arizona Goat Yoga therapy Alpacas. The event will take place in the airport baggage claim area from 1:00-3:00 PM on Wednesday, September 18th.
