Mesa Gateway Airport Exceeds Two Million Passengers for First Time in 2025

MESA, Ariz. — Mesa Gateway Airport (Airport, Gateway Airport) surpassed two million total passengers for the first time in 2025, capped off another successful year that saw the Airport set new records for passengers, cargo, fuel, and revenue. The 2,036,218 passengers welcomed during 2025 represents an approximately eight percent increase over the previous calendar-year record set back in 2022. Gateway Airport continues to demonstrate its growing popularity as the convenient and affordable option for sun-seeking visitors looking to escape the cold and Arizona residents traveling to visit family and friends during the summer months.

“It’s exciting to see more and more air travelers choosing Mesa Gateway Airport when they need to travel,” said Gila River Indian Community Lieutenant Governor Regina Antone, Chairwoman of the Mesa Gateway Airport Authority (MGAA) Board of Directors. “MGAA has been preparing for this growth, building new Airport facilities and improving airfield infrastructure.”

"Reaching two million passengers in a calendar year for the first time demonstrates that Gateway Airport continues to play an increasingly important role in the regional air transportation system," said J. Brian O'Neill, A.A.E., Executive Director/CEO of Mesa Gateway Airport Authority. "This isn't just about record-setting numbers—it's about the thousands of families, leisure travelers, and visitors now choosing Gateway Airport as their preferred airport to and from the Valley."

Gateway Airport serves greater Phoenix with nonstop service to 45 destinations on Allegiant and Sun Country Airlines, and contributes more than $2 Billion annually to Arizona’s economy.
Allegiant recently announced three new destinations that begin service in February: Orange County, California; La Crosse, Wisconsin; and Bloomington/Normal, Illinois.

Looking ahead, Gateway Airport is positioned for continued expansion. Major infrastructure investments are underway, including Phase II of a comprehensive runway reconstruction project and a new TSA Checked Baggage Inspection Facility that will triple the number of checked bags processed per hour. These projects are part of more than $130 million in planned airport improvements over the next five years.
