Airport Safety

At Mesa Gateway Airport, safety is our highest priority. Every passenger, tenant, employee, and visitor relies on our shared commitment to maintain a safe, efficient, and reliable airport environment. Mesa Gateway Airport Authority (MGAA) takes this responsibility seriously. To do this, we have adopted a Safety Policy that includes proactive safety measures and open hazard communication.

Safety Management Systems (SMS)

A Safety Management System (SMS) is used at Mesa Gateway Airport to proactively manage safety across airport operations. SMS is a structured approach that integrates policies, procedures, training, and reporting tools to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and implement effective controls before issues can escalate into incidents.

Rather than reacting only after an event occurs, SMS focuses on prevention, accountability, and continuous improvement. By encouraging hazard reporting, analyzing safety data, and strengthening communication across the airport community, MGAA works to identify risks early and address them in a timely and effective manner.

For the public, this means an additional layer of safety that supports every passenger, visitor, tenant, and employee who operates at the Airport. SMS helps ensure that aircraft operations occur in the safest possible environment, that safety concerns are reported and addressed quickly, and that the Airport continues to meet federal safety standards established under 14 CFR Part 139.

Ultimately, SMS reinforces public confidence in air travel by ensuring that safety remains the foundation of airport operations.

Contacting the Airport Safety Team

MGAA encourages employees, tenants, partners, and visitors to play an active role in maintaining a safe airport environment. If you observe a potential hazard, have a safety concern, or would like to share a safety observation, we encourage you to contact the Airport Safety Team or submit a safety report using the resources provided below.

Safety reporting is an important part of the Airport’s SMS. Each report helps the airport identify potential risks, evaluate safety concerns, and take appropriate corrective action when necessary.

By working together and encouraging open communication about safety concerns, MGAA continues to strengthen its commitment to maintaining a safe and reliable environment for everyone who operates at or travels through the Airport.
